Swansea-based Loughor RFC, a grassroots rugby and football club run by volunteers has been boosted by the support of Wales’ largest used car sales company.
Loughor Rugby Football Club is a community club with 2 senior, 1 youth and 10 mini and junior teams, that play twice a week on its local grounds, Villa Field.
Loughor RFC, a feeder club for the Ospreys, received £894 of funding which went directly into the purchase of 21 field kits for the teams under 15’s team. The bespoke kit, designed by the players themselves, is royal blue colour, to reinforce the club’s well-known nickname ‘The blues’.
The new strip will be worn by the under 15’s junior team, who are competing in this year’s osprey cup competition for the first time. The Ospreys cup sees over a thousand young players from across Wales compete to win the title.
The under 15’s team has been going from strength to strength, and Junior Treasurer, Stephanie Houston says the team are one of the strongest in the competition.
She said: “The boys have worked hard all season to be in a position where they are ready to compete in the Osprey cup competition, so to have a refreshed strip to start the competition is great for team confidence.
“As a club, we are incredibly grateful for the support from Trade Centre Wales. As a parent of one of the boys in the team, we’re always actively looking for ways to raise funds for the team, mainly to make sure the team get the best kit, equipment and personalised training. For a large, well-known company to support our local team – it’s a huge help.”
Winning every game so far, the under 15’s team are aiming high and hoping to be in the Osprey cup competition final on May 12th next year.
Stephanie said: “Our team are now top of their game, with many of our players representing Swansea in their respective school teams and we are confident that we’ll all pull together and reach the final next year!”
Andy Coulthurst, CEO of The Trade Centre Wales, said: “It’s great to see such a committed and motivated team of players, working together and aiming for the top. At Trade Centre Wales we wouldn’t be where we are today without the dedication and hard-work of our team and so I have a lot of respect for the players at Loughor RFC.
“We continually invest in local community projects as well as local sporting talent, and so we’re more than happy to offer our support to a local neighboring club. This year alone we’ve invested £25,000 into grassroots rugby and will continue to support the talented players of the future.
“We wish the under 15’s team the best of luck in their quest to the final in the Osprey cup competition and look forward to seeing the new kit reach that final game!”
