Nelson Cavaliers AFC receive sponsorship from Trade Centre Wales for the third consecutive year.

Nelson Cavaliers, most commonly known as ‘The Cavaliers’ are based in the heart of the South Wales Valleys and play in the Taff Ely & Rhymney Valley Alliance Premier League. The club has five teams including a first, second and Veterans’ teams for over 40’s, 45’s and 50’s.

The Nelson-based club was the first local team to receive a sponsorship deal from South Wales’ leading used car sales company in 2016, following the opening of its Cardiff North branch.

The Trade Centre Wales has sponsored the neighbouring club once again for the 2018/19 season by donating £800 towards a complete new kit for the clubs’ first team.

First team aiming high for the new season

Finishing the 2017/2018 season by winning the Premier League, the first team are looking forward to returning to the league with a refreshed kit and new look.

Keith Downes, Chairman for The Nelson Cavaliers, said: “All five teams at The Cavaliers have excelled this season and I’m proud to see them progress with each game they play. Every season, the kit sees an incredible amount of wear and tear and so its great to have a local business on board that can support us year after year in providing our team with renewed strips.

“We pride ourselves on being a well-established, thriving club, but like many other grassroots clubs across the community, there is often limited funding for overhauls to both our kits and equipment.

“As a club we rely on local businesses to support us and the players, management and committee are extremely grateful for their continued support”

“We also have a very active and dedicated committee consisting of myself, secretary, Rod Powell, treasurer, Peter Jones along with team managers and players representatives who work actively to promote and advance the club”

“We’ve been lucky enough to have a new strip each season from The Trade Centre Wales, however, that doesn’t mean that the previous years strip goes to waste. The strips get passed to our 2nd and veteran teams. This year the generous sponsorship provided by Trade Centre Wales also helped us purchase new equipment for the club including match balls and training equipment.

Keith said: “As a team we’re incredibly grateful for the sponsorship provided by Trade Centre Wales. Not only does the funding provide the team with a refreshed kit each season, but its helping supporting the development and sustainability of a local club founded over 40 years ago.”

Grassroots sports is sports for all

Andy Coulthurst, CEO of The Trade Centre Wales, said: “The Nelson Cavaliers was one of the first of many community run clubs to benefit from our sponsorship offering after we opened our third store at Cardiff North.

“Grassroots sports has always been something that as a business, we’ve been passionate about, and so back in 2016, when Nelson Cavaliers approached us to ask for our support, it was a no brainer. Since then, we’ve supported the boys each year and as an organisation with a similar ethos, we are more than happy to lend a helping hand.

“As a local business, we’re always keen to bring the people of South Wales together, and that’s just what community football does so well. We wish The Cavaliers the best of luck in their rise up the ranks and remind them to remember their roots of South Wales when they reach the Premier League!”
